Scoil Bhríde Mountrath was founded by the Brigidine Order in 1809, and for many years operated from a building attached to the convent on Patrick Street. In 1984 it moved to its present location, just across the road from the old school. Sr Majella O'Driscoll was the last member of the Brigidine Order to be principal of the school. The current principal, Mary Rohan, took over from her in 2002.
Scoil Bhríde caters for girls of primary school age from the town of Mountrath and its hinterland. Boys go to St Fintan's Boys' NS on the New Line Road. Most of our pupils go on to complete their secondary education in Mountrath Community School.
The school currently has 89 pupils, with four classroom teachers, a full time learning support/resource teacher, a shared learning support teacher and two Special Needs Assistants. We are lucky to have a spacious, well-maintained and modern school building. We pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming atmosphere and know that our pupils are a credit to themselves, their school and their families.
