Parental involvement in education is recognised internationally as an essential ingredient for school success. A part of our efforts to encourage greater parental involvement in mathematical learning in our school, we have run a 'Maths for Fun' initiative over the past few years. This involves parents coming in to the school to play maths games with their children for one introductory session, and then the children take home a game two nights each week. The games are directly linked to curricular objectives and as such consolidate learning that has occurred in school in a fun way. We have been really heartened by the enthusiastic response of parents and children to this initiative.
