RUN AROUND IRELAND CHALLENGE
This 4-week challenge encouraged us to put down our pens and pencils and get outdoors for a running break around out Active Walkway every day. We also had the opportunity to learn about some of Ireland’s most famous landmarks. A huge Thank You to Fifth and Sixth Class (Our Active School Committee) for researching each attraction and helping us to learn some interesting facts by creating a display of all the locations that we visited.

Walkway Easter Egg Hunt
The school was a hive of activity this morning as students enjoyed Easter activities with their classes. Mrs Sheppard’s and Mrs Pearson’s Classes searched high up and low down around our Active Walkway to find some Easter eggs. There were smiles all around as they collected their chocolate treats.

ACTIVE ADVENT
Thanks to Ms. Brereton, Ms. Whelan and the girls in 5th and 6th for compiling our “Active Advent Calendar” for all classes to use during December. Each day a door on the calendar was opened to reveal an exercise or activity to get the class moving! Activities included Christmas Musical Statues, 10@10, daily mile challenge, class snowball fight, Santa Dash and lots more! It was a fun, easy way to keep us fit and healthy during this festive season. As a special treat in our Active Calendar our Parents’ Council booked us into The Helix to watch “The Sword in the Stone” – cost €295.00. We watched this production on Thursday in our own classrooms. Also, for the final week the children did not have homework but instead they were encouraged to do “active homework”.

Spooky Stroll
On Friday 23rd of October all of the girls and staff dressed up for Halloween. As we are working towards getting the Active School Flag this year, we decided to try to be extra active for Halloween and so the whole school took part in a ‘Spooky Stroll’ around our new Active Walkway. There were so many great and scary costumes this year, everyone made a fantastic effort!

SPORTS DAY
We had a very enjoyable day at our School Sports Day with plenty of activities for all age groups. The Day began with our Daily Mile. The Active School Committee led the warm up exercises with Wake Up and Shake Up in the yard. Sixth Class then directed the girls at different stations such as the Bouncing Castle, Fun Games, Ball Games, Obstacle Course, Musical Games and the Skipathon to name a few. Thanks to Sixth Class for organising the stations. A huge thank you to Ruth in the Old Brigidine Convent for organising Race Time. Once again, thanks to the Parents’ Council, for hiring an obstacle course from Megabounce. The obstacle course was a great success and the children very much enjoyed their ice-creams and slushies. Thanks to Ms. Brereton, Ms. Whelan and Sixth Class for organising the day.
