What a beautiful day as we launched our Active Week here in Scoil Bhride. We got off to a great start with the girls completing their #Run Around Ireland Challenge. All the classes completed different Walkway activities. Ms Sheppard’s class played I spy as they went on a ‘Sound Walk’ around the walkway. Ms. Pearson’s class completed Walkway Sentences. Ms. Rohan’s Class completed ‘the Active Walkway challenge they moved between all the control points completing various activities such as walking, skipping, running hopscotch and side step. Ms. Whelan’s class completed a maths trail around the walkway. First and Second Class enjoyed a yoga class outside with Ms. Ward, the girls really enjoyed stretching and creating a variety of different poses. Ms. Rohan’s class completed a scavenger hunt in which they had to work in their pods to solve the clues. Ms. Whelan’s class went to the Brigidine Convent to practice their basketball skills.
As part of our Active Schools Week, the girls will be given different challenges. There are two challenges today! Remember, the whole family can get involved in these challenges! 😀
The first one is - 'Beat Ms Brereton’s Running Challenge'. Have a look at the on twitter to see Ms. Brereton running. The girls can use shoes flower pots, water bottles or whatever they have to mark out the 3 points that they will run to and then get someone to time them to see how fast they can do it. Try to beat Ms. Brereton’s time of 15 seconds.

Also, please complete the 'Active Every Day' sheet and return it to school next Tuesday - after the bank holiday. Thanks to the senior girls, Ms. Whelan and Ms. Brereton for keeping us on our toes! All the family can get involved, as our active slogan says: 'Don't be lazy, exercise like crazy'.
A huge well done to all of you who participated in our challenges so far. Poor Ms. Brereton has been wiped from the top of the leader board in the ‘Beat Ms. Brereton Challenge’ Keep up the great running girls. It is wonderful to see everybody improving their fitness. Ms Brereton is hoping that she can still win the Steps Challenge. She had 18,284 on Monday and 12, 587 on Tuesday. Let’s see who will have the most steps by next Tuesday morning.
Despite the change in weather the girls continued with their Active Schools activities. Each class continued their ‘Run Around Ireland’ Challenge. Where are we going to stop next!
Each class completed a Walkway Activity. Mrs Sheppard’s Class went on a Nature hunt around our Active Walkway. Mrs Pearson’s class completed Walkway Alphabetical Organisation. Ms Rohan’s Class completed a Walkway Quiz. Ms. Whelan’s class went on a Comprehension strategies walk around the walkway.
The girls enjoyed other fun activities. Mrs. Sheppard’s class completed a yoga class. First and Second Class performed a guided dance tutorial. Ms. Whelan’s Class went to the Brigidine Convent where they played tennis and volleyball. We are very lucky to have access to these Fabulous facilities so close to our school.
We hope everyone enjoys playing their board game at home this evening. A huge word of thanks to our Active Schools Committee for designing and creating all the games.
We had another busy day in Scoil Bhríde today. The girls continued their run around Ireland reaching Slieve Donard in County Down. Well done girls. We’ve made it to Northern Ireland’s highest peak (850m), towering above the magical Mourne Mountains, the town of Newcastle and the deep blue Irish Sea.
The girls continued their Active Walkway activities. Junior and Senior Infants participated in a Sound challenge. First and Second Class went on a “Roll the Dice and do the Activity it lands on” walkway activity. Third and fourth class went on a Multiplication Trail around the Walkway. Fifth and Sixth class went on a Famine Walk and Talk.
The girls enjoyed a third activity to energise the day. Mrs. Sheppard’s class completed a dance class. First and Second Class participated in a yoga class in the hall. Ms. Rohan’s Class enjoyed an orienteering activity with Ms. Kennedy. Ms. Whelan’s Class went to the Brigidine Convent where they played tennis and volleyball.
Ms. Brereton reached a total of 18,126 steps today. It’s not too late to join in Ms. Brereton Step Challenge #Beat Ms. Brereton’s steps!!!
A huge well done to all the girls in Scoil Bhríde and your families as you continue to amaze us with all your photos and videos. Our virtual run continued today with the girls reaching Slieve League Cliffs in Donegal. Well done girls. The fascinating cliff scenery of Slieve League is one of the outstanding natural wonders of the Wild Atlantic Way.
On our Active Walkway Junior and Senior Infants participated in a Letter Hunt. First and Second Class completed a Subtraction Walkway activity. Third and fourth class tested their general knowledge with a Walkway Quiz. Fifth and Sixth class really tested their fitness as they let the fitness dice decide the activity to be completed at each control point.
The girls also enjoyed a third activity to energise the day. Mrs. Sheppard’s class participated in a yoga class in the hall. First and Second Class completed a dance class. Third and Fourth Class enjoyed another dance session with Ms. Kennedy. Ms. Whelan’s Class went to the Brigidine Convent where they played tennis and volleyball.
Ms. Brereton reached a total of 13,007 steps on Thursday. It’s not too late to Beat Ms. Brereton’s steps!!!
Today marked the end of a fantastic week of activities and challenges in school for our #ASW 21. We completed the week with #FeelGoodFridays-Local Hero.
We didn’t have to look far to find lots of heroes in Scoil Bhríde as the girls completed their final laps to reach the Spire in Dublin and complete the Run around Ireland challenge. We are so proud of all our girls for running laps around the Active Walkway every day until their targets were reached! Well done to all!
A huge THANK YOU to some of our local sportsmen and women for providing us with some excellent challenges for Feel Good Friday. All classes really enjoyed participating in Paul O’Brien’s Fitness Challenge, check out our Twitter Page to see Mrs. Sheppard’s Class participating in his challenge. A huge Thank you also to Mountrath Kettlebells Club for setting us a fantastic squat challenge to the tune of ‘Bring Sally Up’. We had lots of fun with the challenges.
The girls participated in a variety of ‘Walkway activities. Mrs. Sheppard’s class went on an Active Walkway Maths Trail. Ms. Ward brought 1st and 2nd class on a ‘Wild Flower Hunt’. Check out the photos below to see their beautiful bracelet creations. Ms Rohan’s Class enjoyed some walkway Mindfulness with Ms. Kennedy. While Ms. Whelan’s Class completed the ‘Toughest ‘Walkway challenge as they were at the mercy of the Fitness Dice at each control Point.
Mrs. Sheppard’s class also completed relay races as well as making some very tasty smoothies as they learned all about the healthy benefits of eating fruits and vegetables. First and Second class completed Walkway exercises as well as a Go Noodle Dance Session. Ms. Whelan’s Class also enjoyed a tennis and volleyball session in the Brigidine Outdoor courts.
Don’t forget to keep up the good work over the weekend as Active Schools Week lasts until Sunday. Complete your challenges and try to get 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Keep up your steps and see if you can beat Ms. Brereton.
2018/2019
A huge thanks to our Active School Committee for organising a fun filled week of activities. We completed our 'Daily Mile' every day and we got active in our classroom with the 'Active Dice' and 'Drop Everything and Dance' On Tuesday we had a gruelling session with John in the old Brigidine Convent. On Wednesday we were against the clock to complete a timed obstacle course to find the fastest athlete in each class. On Thursday the Active School Committee put the school through their paces as they led 'Wake Up, Shake Up' in the school yard. The Camogie team won their match and 3rd and 4th classes went swimming. On Friday we finished our week on a high as we completed our 5km Fun Run. We hope to achieve our First Active Flag in the near future.
