PE Equipment and Storage
We do a PE equipment check every year and replace any broken equipment. This year we invested in basketballs, footballs and tennis balls. Next year we had hoped to invest in an outdoor speaker but we were thrilled to receive a phone call from the Active School Flag Team to tell us that we had won an outdoor speaker in recognition of our Active Week Challenges and Our Run Around Ireland Challenge. We have put it to great use with all classes using it for dance both indoors and outdoors. We were also very lucky to receive a fantastic new multi activity and sports trainning pack from Laois Sports Partnership in conjunction with the Bubbles and Pods Programme. All our equipment is labelled to make it easily accessible.

Dance involves the child in creating, performing and appreciating movement as a means of expression and communication. The dance programme involves the child in a range of creative and folk dance. When creating dance, the child explores a range of body parts, body actions and body shapes. All classes complete both creative and folk dances. Check out the pictures and videos below.
Infants had great fun today in PE learning their dance 'Skip to my Lou' with the help of our new outdoor speaker. The girls also enjoyed some creative dance. Well done to Mrs Sheppard and Junior and Senior Infants.

The girls are learning the key skills of gymnastics such as rolling (forward, backward), balance, landing, flexibility and strength. Even the teachers are learning a lot from the instructor on the key teaching points of Gymnastics as well.

Strand: Outdoor and Adventure
Outdoor and adventure activities are concerned with walking, cycling, camping and water-based activities, orienteering, and outdoor challenge activities. We have really enjoyed using our Active Walkway to create an orienteering course around the perimeter of the school yard. The walkway activities have helped the girls to develop an appreciation and enjoyment of the great outdoors. Junior and Senior Infants went on a nature hunt, 1st and 2nd class went on a wildflower hunt. Third and Fourth Class really enjoyed their scavenger hunt. These activities develop team building skills, social skills and problem-solving. The girls must also work on their map-reading skills.
